Cetirizine liquid is given to children to treat and prevent various symptoms such as watery eyes, sneezing, itching, running nose associated with allergic conditions like hay fever, urticaria (hives), conjunctive (red, Itchy eyes), and the common cold. This medicine is also used to relieve hay fever (allergy to dust, pollen, and other substances in the air) and treats those who are allergic to other substances such as dust mites, cockroaches, animal dander, and mods.

How to use

Read all the directions written at the back of the product packaging. Or, if your doctor has prescribed you the dosage, stick to it.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once a day or as your doctor directs it. Dosage is based on your age, treatment’s responses, and condition of the patient.

If you are taking this medicine in liquid form, carefully measure the dose of medicine using a measuring spoon or device. Please don’t use the household spoon because it may not tell you the correct amount.

Consult your doctor if your allergy symptoms don’t improve after 3 days of taking this medication or if your hives last for more than 6 weeks.

Side effects

Here are some side effects that you might experience while taking this medication.

•         Dry mouth

•         Tiredness

•         Drowsiness

In children, vomiting and stomach pain occurs.

If any of these side effects gets worsens or persist, consult your doctor immediately.

When not to use

It is contraindicated to patients who have narrow-angle glaucoma or urinary retention and also not recommended to patients who receive MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitor therapy.

•         Those who are under pregnancy are advised to consult their doctor before intaking this medicine.

•         This medicine passes into breast milk, so make sure that you consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

•         Consult your doctor if you have any medical history related to difficulty urinating due to enlarged prostate, liver disease, kidney disease.
