Uses

Clopidogrel is used to treat and prevent blood clots if you have chest pain, a heart attack, stroke, chest pain, or peripheral artery disease, i.e. (poor circulation in your legs.) This medicine is used in patients who have a heart attack in the last 35 days, ischemic stroke, i.e., blocking the blood vessel in the brain that occurs with 7 days to less than 6 months. And peripheral artery disease, i.e., disease of arteries supplying the extremities. 

Dosage

Take this medicine with or without medicine or as your doctor directs. The recommended dosage of this medicine is one day a tablet. To get the most benefit of it, take this medication regularly. Take this medicine each day at the same time to help you remember the timings.

The medicines length and dosage depend on your medical condition, doctors recommendation, and response to the treatment. Those who are taking this medicine to prevent the clots after a stent implant or other procedure are advised to take this medicine along with aspirin or as your doctor directs it.

You are advised to use this medicine until the prescribed amount is finished, even if you feel that the symptoms disappear after few days.

When not to use

This medicine is contraindicated in patients known to hypersensitive to Clopidogrel or any other component used in the medicine. The Clopidogrel increases the risk of bleeding. This medicine is not recommended for active pathological bleeding patients that include intracranial bleeding and GI bleeding.

• • Consult your doctor if you are allergic to Clopidogrel or any other antiplatelet drugs (thienopyridines such as prasugrel. This product may contain inactive ingredients that might cause an allergic reaction.

• • When on this medication, avoid eating grapefruit unless your doctor allows it to you by saying that its safe to eat. Grapefruit increases the chances of side effects with the medicine. For more details and information, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

• • It is unknown that if this medicine passes into the breast milk, is harmful to the nursing infant or not. So, ask your doctor before using this medication.

• • Before you use this medication, tell your doctor if you have any medical history related to bleeding conditions (like stomach ulcers, bleeding in the brain/eye), serious injury/ trauma, liver disease, bleeding disease, recent surgery, such as hemophilia.
